  • What is a Virtual Private Server (VPS)?
  • - A Virtual Private Server is one of several isolated server environments that happen to exist within a large and powerful physical server. A VPS performs and executes exactly like a stand-alone server. Having its own processes, system configuration, users and files, each VPS allows full administrative access all of which are similar features that customers appreciate from a dedicated solution and stepping up the reliability from a shared plan.


  • Who uses Virtual Private Servers?
  • - VPS is used by developers and designers who require full access to the operating system and the ability to load any application or program they require to the server.

    Typical uses include: - Technical Uses: staging, development and testing
    - Applications: DNS, e-mail, FTP, and backup
    - Hobbyist applications, moderate gaming, and photo galleries
    - Complex websites or higher volume E-commerce sites
    - Processor-intensive applications like serving databases
    - Resellers, Software Developers, Web Developers & Designers

    Possibilities are limitless as to what a Virtual Private Server can do for you and your business. Please note that users have to manage their own VPS. VPS is therefore ideally suited for management by software/web developers and power users experienced with hosting.


  • What is Virtuozzo?
  • - Virtuozzo creates multiple isolated Virtual Private Servers (VPSs) on a single physical server. Each VPS performs and executes exactly like a stand-alone server for its users and applications as it can be rebooted independently and has its own root access, users, IP addresses, memory, processes, files, applications, system libraries, and configuration files


  • Do I need to update windows on my VPS?
  • - Please DO NOT install Microsoft updates! Doing so might load Microsoft patches that are not compatible with Virtuozzo and cause a service interruption.

    - Virtuozzo and Microsoft Windows work in conjunction making it critical to synchronize and update the two software packages appropriately.

    - Virtuozzo configures Windows Automatic Updates on the Virtuozzo Host server so that only Microsoft updates tested for compatibility with the current Virtuozzo patch level are installed.


  • What level of support do you offer?
  • - 2day Virtual Server is designed with the experienced Web Developer/Designer in mind and as such expects users to be able to manage their own Virtual Private Servers. 2day.com support for VPS will be limited to server operations only.


  • Do I have root access to my VPS?
  • - Yes. You have full administrative control over your VPS. You can configure your server at root level and even reboot your VPS. Your operating system if your own secure environment.


  • What happens when I use all of my bandwidth?
  • - Surcharge for this will be extra at $0.05¢ per MB


  • Does Virtuozzo support burstable memory?
  • - No, Virtuozzo does not support burstable memory.


  • Access your Virtual Private Server through use of RDP.
  • - WinXP; click ‘Start’ > ‘All Programs’ > ‘Accessories’ > ‘Communications’ > ‘Remote Desktop Connections’
    - in the computer field, type in <vpsid.2day.com>
    - click connect
    - ‘log in to windows’ prompt will appear
    - type in the <login> and <*password> provided, click ok to proceed.

    *Password would be as provided by customer when account was created. Please check the confirmation email sent to the account holder at time of VPS provisioning. Note that reset of password will only be sent to the account holder via email for security reason.


  • 2day Power Panel – Management Console access.
  • - Internet Explorer 6 > in the address bar type https://vpsid.2day.com:4643
    - press enter > click ‘yes’ if prompted to accept Security Alert
    - type in <username> and <password> as provided on confirmation email sent on creation of VPS account
    - click on ‘login’ to proceed

    - Firefox 1.5 > in the address bar type https://vpsid.2day.com:4643
    - press enter > click ‘yes’ if prompted to ‘accept this certificate temporarily’
    - click ‘ok’ to proceed
    - type in <username> and <password> as provided on confirmation email sent on creation of VPS account
    - click on ‘login’ to proceed


  • Why are my files permanently deleted within a VPS without placing them in the Recycle Bin?
  • - By default, the Recycle Bin is disabled to save disk space within a virtual environment. It can be enabled however by clearing the "Don't move files to the Recycle Bin." checkbox in the Recycle Bin property on that specific VPS.
